Viewing cycle route: Argentina for sissies
Fly in at BA, spend some days there. Then take the bus to Cordoba. Spend some days riding the hills there. When the hills get boring go west and make some good distance along very boring mostly flat roads. Skip some boring days cycling by taking a bus to Amaicha del Valle. Then go north, visit historic Salta and Jujuy. End the trip by cycling part of the world heritage Humahuaca valley a couple of 100 kms south of Bolivia. This is one of the sissy options for riding in Argentina because you will not be faced with the eternal Patagonian winds, the unpaved lake district roads, the killer roads on the pamaps or the very high passes between Chili and Argentina. Takes about 3 weeks, but can be done faster.

http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/argentinaArgentina is one of the safest countries in South America so it is a good place to start your South American cycle experience here. The roads leading out of BA are very narrow and busy and most of them seem to lack a shoulder. So it is best to take a bus for about 400 - 600 km and then start riding like I did. (the landscape is also boring, so why risk riding the pampas). As long as it is not the height of the tourist season the Cordoba area is nice (during season the narrow roads there might not be fun). After the hills it gets realy boring so I took a bus after La Rioja.
Then after Amaiche del Valle it became nice again. All the way up to Humahuaca. Almost all roads were paved and were in reasonable good shape or better.
